While the outcomes of the Oct 11 by-elections in Punjab have pressured the PTI and the PML-N to do some soul searching, they have also revealed the parties’ mistakes in the choice of applicants and its repercussions.
The PTI had fielded Ashraf Sohna with the advantage of the party’s national planner, Shah Mahmood Qureshi. Sohna had quit the PPPP a few months ago over variations with the party management.
Since the PTI’s beat in the Okara-II poll, fingers have been racing at Qureshi – who headed the whole strategy for the constituency – over “poor performance”. In Lahore, PTI Punjab planner Chaudhry Sarwar had led the selection strategy and his efficiency was valued by the party chairman, Imran Khan, during his Oct 14 trip to the town. Qureshi was once again missing from the occasion.
Breaking news in this scenario is Qureshi has made the decision to stop the PTI. However, he has refuted all reviews regarding his making from the PTI on the Twitter. Meanwhile, resources have pressured that “Qureshi is departing the PTI shortly”. They stated that he was not even getting Imran’s phone calls.
The PTI chairman had frequented the party’s Garhi Shahu office in Lahore but Qureshi remained away, which, according to resources, was another sign of increasing variations.
A resource said that “there is chance of Qureshi becoming a member of the former chief executive Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf’s party”. He has created up his thoughts and is with a weight of his choices before becoming a member of Musharraf’s party, included the resource.
When approached for feedback, Qureshi did not react to concerns about the speculation indicating his variances with the party. However, PTI management refuted the reviews.
