Venus Williams beat Roberta Vinci in Wuhan Open Semi final


Venus Williams defeats Roberta Vinci in a thriller of three set match here on Friday night, deciding a ranking on the part of her sis Serena, to achieve the Wuhan open finals. The seven-time world champion winner was a match point down to her Italian counterpart at one level, but gradually saw her off in the final set tie break.

Venus seemed relaxed going into the third set, obtaining a 4-1 head over Vinci. But the surprise US open finalist forced to return, even the ranking before lastly drops to the United States veteran. This is the final score of the match 5-7, 6-2, and 7-6 (7-4).

It was Vinci’s second successive semi-final encounter against the Williams sisters, after her victory against world number one in ranking Serena in the US open, a disappointed that declined her calendar-year Grand Slam and a record-equaling 22nd key title.

Williams who with 46 titles has more victories to her name than the other semi-finalists mixed will experience Wimbledon finalist Garbine Muguruza on Weekend.

Muguruza has fallen to Germany’s Angelique Kerber in two sets 6-4, 7-6 and 7-5, despite dropping during the second set tie break and hurting her foot. The 21-year-old Spaniard and world number eight joined the semi-finals as the biggest rated gamer, after retirements and surprise beat eliminated out the top ranking spots.

Muguruza will go to a career-high of number five in ranking having made to the semi-finals, and would achieve number four position if she requires the won the title. Venus will reenter the top 20 after her semifinal victory, and still has an outside possibility of determining for the year ending in Singapore if she victories in Wuhan and has a powerful performance in next week’s Chinese open tournament.
